Both clauses are the class comprehension theorem for n = 2 and n = 3, with the tuples unfolded into ordered pairs.

Proof

For (i), apply The Class Comprehension Theorem for Predicative Formulas (i) with n=2n=2, x1=ux_{1}=u and x2=vx_{2}=v, to the formula φ(u,v,Y1,…,Ym)\varphi(u,v,Y_{1},\dots,Y_{m}) and the given classes Y1,…,YmY_{1},\dots,Y_{m} and assignment of sets to the parameters. It gives a class ZZ such that, for all sets uu and vv, ⟨u,v⟩∈Z\langle u,v\rangle\in Z if and only if φ(u,v,Y1,…,Ym)\varphi(u,v,Y_{1},\dots,Y_{m}). By the recursion of The Ordered Pair of Two Sets and Nested Tuples (ii),

⟨u,v⟩=(⟨u⟩,v)=(u,v),\langle u,v\rangle=(\langle u\rangle,v)=(u,v),

so ZZ is as required.

For (ii), apply The Class Comprehension Theorem for Predicative Formulas (i) in the same way with n=3n=3, x1=ux_{1}=u, x2=vx_{2}=v and x3=wx_{3}=w. It gives a class ZZ such that, for all sets uu, vv and ww, ⟨u,v,w⟩∈Z\langle u,v,w\rangle\in Z if and only if φ(u,v,w,Y1,…,Ym)\varphi(u,v,w,Y_{1},\dots,Y_{m}), and by the same recursion

⟨u,v,w⟩=(⟨u,v⟩,w)=((u,v),w),\langle u,v,w\rangle=(\langle u,v\rangle,w)=((u,v),w),

so ZZ is as required.
