TheoremBase

The point x is a map from [n] to R whose value at k is its k-th component, and a pair (k, v) lies in a map exactly when v is its value at k.

Proof

By Euclidean Space Rn\mathbb{R}^n: n-Tuples of Real Numbers with Their Componentwise Operations (ii), xx is a map x:[n]→Rx:[n]\to\mathbb{R} with xk=x(k)x_{k}=x(k). Applying Maps between Classes: Values, Pairs, Extensionality, Restrictions, Constant Maps and Preimages (ii) with F=xF=x, A=[n]A=[n], B=RB=\mathbb{R} and u=ku=k gives, for every set vv,

(k,v)∈x  ⟺  v=x(k)=xk.(k,v)\in x\iff v=x(k)=x_{k}.
