Cᵏ Diffeomorphisms Between Open Subsets of ℝⁿ

A Cᵏ (respectively smooth) diffeomorphism of an open set W onto an open set V in ℝⁿ is an injective Cᵏ (respectively smooth) function from W onto V whose inverse is again Cᵏ (respectively smooth).

Statement

In the setting of Functions of Class Cᵏ: Notation, let WW and VV be open subsets of Rn\mathbb{R}^{n}.

Diffeomorphisms. Let k∈Nk\in\mathbb{N}. A function f:W→Rnf:W\to\mathbb{R}^{n} is a CkC^{k} diffeomorphism of WW onto VV if f(W)=Vf(W)=V, ff is injective, ff is of class CkC^{k} on WW, and the inverse function f−1:V→Wf^{-1}:V\to W, regarded as a function V→RnV\to\mathbb{R}^{n}, is of class CkC^{k} on VV. Likewise, ff is a smooth diffeomorphism of WW onto VV if f(W)=Vf(W)=V, ff is injective, ff is smooth on WW, and f−1:V→Rnf^{-1}:V\to\mathbb{R}^{n} is smooth on VV.
