The Sets of Injections, Surjections and Bijections between Two Sets

For sets A and B, Inj(A,B), Surj(A,B) and Bij(A,B) are the subsets of BAB^A consisting of the injective, surjective and bijective maps from A to B.

Statement

In the setting of Routine Facts Used Without Citation: Arithmetic, Maps, Predicativity and Indices, let AA and BB be sets, and let BAB^{A} be the set of maps from AA to BB (The Elements of the Class of Functions from a Set to a Set, and This Class Is a Set (ii), The Elements of the Class of Functions from a Set to a Set, and This Class Is a Set (i)).

Injections. The set of injections from AA to BB is

Inj⁡(A,B)={f∈BA:f is injective},\operatorname{Inj}(A,B)=\{f\in B^{A}:f\text{ is injective}\},

with injective as in Injective, Surjective and Bijective Functions between Classes (i). For a set ff, f∈Inj⁡(A,B)f\in\operatorname{Inj}(A,B) if and only if f:A→Bf:A\to B is injective.

Surjections. The set of surjections from AA to BB is

Surj⁡(A,B)={f∈BA:f is surjective},\operatorname{Surj}(A,B)=\{f\in B^{A}:f\text{ is surjective}\},

with surjective as in Injective, Surjective and Bijective Functions between Classes (ii). For a set ff, f∈Surj⁡(A,B)f\in\operatorname{Surj}(A,B) if and only if f:A→Bf:A\to B is surjective.

Bijections. The set of bijections from AA to BB is

Bij⁡(A,B)={f∈BA:f is bijective},\operatorname{Bij}(A,B)=\{f\in B^{A}:f\text{ is bijective}\},

with bijective as in Injective, Surjective and Bijective Functions between Classes (iii). For a set ff, f∈Bij⁡(A,B)f\in\operatorname{Bij}(A,B) if and only if f:A→Bf:A\to B is bijective.
