Adding a Positive Real, Cancelling an Added Real, and Regrouping Four Summands in ℝ

For real numbers: adding a positive number increases a number, adding and then subtracting y returns x, and a sum of two sums can be regrouped as (a+c)+(b+d).

Statement

This helper adopts the setting of The Real Numbers, with the Natural Numbers, Integers and Rationals Identified with Subsets of the Reals, and Completeness: R\mathbb{R}, its order ≤\le, its operation ++ and its element 00 are as in The Real Numbers, with the Natural Numbers, Integers and Rationals Identified with Subsets of the Reals, and Completeness (ii); << is the strict relation associated with ≤\le, and for x,y∈Rx,y\in\mathbb{R}, x−yx-y is the difference of xx and yy. Let xx, yy, aa, bb, cc and dd be real numbers.

If 0<y0<y, then x<x+yx<x+y.

(x+y)−y=x(x+y)-y=x.

(a+b)+(c+d)=(a+c)+(b+d)(a+b)+(c+d)=(a+c)+(b+d).
