Measurable-Space Bookkeeping: Borel σ-Algebras of Metric Spaces, Closed Subintervals in the Restricted Borel σ-Algebra, and the Whole Space Almost Everywhere

The Borel σ-algebra of a metric space is a σ-algebra, a closed interval inside [a,b] belongs to the Borel σ-algebra of ℝ restricted to [a,b], and the whole space of a measure space holds almost everywhere.

Statement

In the setting of Measure Spaces, Borel Sets and Lebesgue Measure on the Real Line: Standing Notation:

Let (S,d)(S,d) be a metric space. Then its Borel σ\sigma-algebra B(S)\mathcal{B}(S) is a σ\sigma-algebra on SS.

Let a,b,s,t∈Ra,b,s,t\in\mathbb{R} with a≤sa\le s, s≤ts\le t and t≤bt\le b, and let

B(R)[a,b]={B∈B(R):B⊆[a,b]}\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})_{[a,b]}=\{B\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}):B\subseteq[a,b]\}

be the restriction of B(R)\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}) to the closed interval [a,b][a,b]. Then [s,t]∈B(R)[a,b][s,t]\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})_{[a,b]}.

Let (X,F,μ)(X,\mathcal{F},\mu) be a measure space. Then XX holds μ\mu-almost everywhere.
