Hahn Sets of a Finite Signed Measure

A Hahn set for a finite signed measure is a measurable set on whose measurable subsets the measure is nonnegative and on whose complement's measurable subsets it is nonpositive.

Statement

In the setting of Measure Spaces, Borel Sets and Lebesgue Measure on the Real Line: Standing Notation, let (X,F)(X,\mathcal{F}) be a measurable space and let ν\nu be a finite signed measure on (X,F)(X,\mathcal{F}).

Hahn set. A set P∈FP\in\mathcal{F} is a Hahn set for ν\nu if ν(A)≥0\nu(A)\ge0 for every A∈FA\in\mathcal{F} with A⊆PA\subseteq P, and ν(A)≤0\nu(A)\le0 for every A∈FA\in\mathcal{F} with A⊆X∖PA\subseteq X\setminus P.
