The Earlier and the New Versions of the Definitions of Commutative Rings, Fields and Vector Spaces Agree

The earlier and the new versions of the definitions of commutative rings, fields and vector spaces over a field define the same notions.

Statement

In the setting of Routine Facts, Continued: Typed Arithmetic, Maps and Predicativity.

Commutative rings. For every set rr, all binary operations ++ and ⋅\cdot on rr and all 0,1∈r0,1\in r, the set rr, with ++, ⋅\cdot, 00 and 11, is a commutative ring in the earlier version if and only if it is a commutative ring in the new version.

Fields. For rr, ++, ⋅\cdot, 00 and 11 as in (i), rr is a field in the earlier version if and only if it is a field in the new version.

Vector spaces. For every field KK (in the new version), with ++, ⋅\cdot, 00 and 11, every set VV, every binary operation ++ on VV and every function from K×VK\times V to VV, the set VV, with this addition and scalar multiplication, is a vector space over KK in the earlier version if and only if it is a vector space over KK in the new version; and VV is a real vector space in the earlier version if and only if it is a real vector space in the new version.
