The Intrinsic Fisher Information Relative to the Gibbs Measure of a Gibbs-Sobolev Potential

A measure has finite intrinsic Fisher information relative to the Gibbs measure if it has a density whose square root lies in the Gibbs Sobolev space; the information is four times the Dirichlet energy of that square root.

Statement

In the settings of The Real Numbers: Standing Notation and Background and Gaussian Analysis Relative to a Diagonal Gaussian Reference Measure with Noise Weights: Standing Notation, let β,q∈R\beta,q\in\mathbb{R} satisfy 0<β0<\beta and 1<q1<q, let VV be a Gibbs-Sobolev potential at temperature β\beta with exponent qq, with Gibbs measure γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta}, Gibbs Sobolev space Da1,2(γβV)\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) and Gibbs Dirichlet form EaV\mathcal{E}^{V}_{a}, and with L2(γβV)L^{2}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) as in The Gibbs Sobolev Space of the Noise Gradient. For a real number s≥0s\ge0, s\sqrt{s} is its nonnegative square root.

(Intrinsic Fisher information) A measure μ∈P(X)\mu\in\mathcal{P}(X) has finite intrinsic Fisher information relative to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta} with weights aa if there is a Borel function f:X→[0,∞)f:X\to[0,\infty) with μ(A)=∫Af dγβV\mu(A)=\int_{A}f\,d\gamma^{V}_{\beta} for every A∈B(X)A\in\mathcal{B}(X) (a density of μ\mu relative to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) such that the class of f\sqrt{f} lies in Da1,2(γβV)\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}). Here f=(x↦f(x))\sqrt{f}=(x\mapsto\sqrt{f(x)}) is Borel, since for real tt the set of the xx with f(x)>t\sqrt{f(x)}>t is XX if t<0t<0 and is the set of the xx with f(x)>t2f(x)>t^{2} if 0≤t0\le t, by Monotonicity of Squaring on the Nonnegative Elements of an Ordered Field; and (f)2=f(\sqrt{f})^{2}=f pointwise by Existence and Uniqueness of the Nonnegative Square Root, so ∫X(f)2 dγβV=μ(X)=1\int_{X}(\sqrt{f})^{2}\,d\gamma^{V}_{\beta}=\mu(X)=1 (the defining identity with A=XA=X) and its class lies in L2(γβV)L^{2}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}). The intrinsic Fisher information of μ\mu relative to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta} with weights aa is then the nonnegative real number

IaV(μ)=4 EaV(f,f).\mathcal{I}^{V}_{a}(\mu)=4\,\mathcal{E}^{V}_{a}\bigl(\sqrt{f},\sqrt{f}\bigr).

It does not depend on the choice of ff: two densities of μ\mu relative to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta} agree γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta}-almost everywhere by The Radon-Nikodym Theorem for a Finite Measure and a Sigma-Finite Measure, and Uniqueness of Densities §uniqueness, so their square roots have the same class.
