The Norm Metric of a Real Normed Space

The norm metric of a real normed space is the distance function given by the norm of the difference of two vectors.

Statement

In the setting of The Real Numbers, with the Natural Numbers, Integers and Rationals Identified with Subsets of the Reals, and Completeness, let (V,∥⋅∥)(V,\lVert\cdot\rVert) be a real normed space, with differences u−vu-v.

Norm metric. The norm metric of (V,∥⋅∥)(V,\lVert\cdot\rVert) is the function dV:V×V→Rd_{V}:V\times V\to\mathbb{R} given by

dV(u,v)=∥u−v∥.d_{V}(u,v)=\lVert u-v\rVert .
