The Gibbs Sobolev Space: Linearity, Closedness, the Chain Rule, and the Score of a Measure of Finite Intrinsic Fisher Information

The Gibbs Sobolev space is closed and linear with a chain rule; the Gibbs measure has zero intrinsic Fisher information; and for a measure of finite intrinsic Fisher information the field 2 grad(sqrt f)/sqrt f is square-integrable, has squared norm equal to the Fisher information, and satisfies the Gibbs integration by parts identity against cylindrical test functions.

Statement

In the settings of The Real Numbers: Standing Notation and Background and Gaussian Analysis Relative to a Diagonal Gaussian Reference Measure with Noise Weights: Standing Notation, let β,q∈R\beta,q\in\mathbb{R} satisfy 0<β0<\beta and 1<q1<q, let VV be a Gibbs-Sobolev potential at temperature β\beta with exponent qq, with partial derivatives ∂kV\partial_{k}V, Gibbs measure γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta}, Gibbs Sobolev space Da1,2(γβV)\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) and Gibbs noise gradient ∇aV\nabla^{V}_{a}, and with the spaces L2(γβV)L^{2}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) and L2(γβV;Xa)L^{2}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta};X^{a}) and their norms as in The Gibbs Sobolev Space of the Noise Gradient. Finite intrinsic Fisher information relative to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta} with weights aa and its value IaV\mathcal{I}^{V}_{a} are those of The Intrinsic Fisher Information Relative to the Gibbs Measure of a Gibbs-Sobolev Potential. FCb2(X)\mathcal{F}C^{2}_{b}(X) and partial derivatives are those of Gaussian Analysis Relative to a Diagonal Gaussian Reference Measure with Noise Weights: Standing Notation §cylindrical; for a measure μ∈P(X)\mu\in\mathcal{P}(X), L2(μ;Xa)L^{2}(\mu;X^{a}) is the space of Probability Measures on a Hilbert Space Transported in the Noise Norm: Standing Notation §fields, with inner product ⟨⋅,⋅⟩μ\langle\cdot,\cdot\rangle_{\mu} and norm ∥⋅∥μ\lVert\cdot\rVert_{\mu}.

1. (Linearity) Da1,2(γβV)\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) is a linear subspace of L2(γβV)L^{2}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) containing the constant functions, and ∇aV\nabla^{V}_{a} is linear on it and vanishes on the constant functions.

2. (Closedness) Let Fj∈Da1,2(γβV)F_{j}\in\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) (j∈Nj\in\mathbb{N}), F∈L2(γβV)F\in L^{2}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) and G∈L2(γβV;Xa)G\in L^{2}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta};X^{a}) satisfy ∥Fj−F∥L2(γβV)→0\lVert F_{j}-F\rVert_{L^{2}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta})}\to0 and ∥∇aVFj−G∥γβV→0\lVert\nabla^{V}_{a}F_{j}-G\rVert_{\gamma^{V}_{\beta}}\to0. Then F∈Da1,2(γβV)F\in\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}) and ∇aVF=G\nabla^{V}_{a}F=G.

3. (Chain rule) Let h:R→Rh:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R} be of class C1C^{1} on R=R1\mathbb{R}=\mathbb{R}^{1} in the sense of C^k Maps on a Euclidean Open Set, with derivative h′=∂1hh'=\partial_{1}h bounded. Let F∈Da1,2(γβV)F\in\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}), let ff be a Borel function in the class FF and gg a map in the class ∇aVF\nabla^{V}_{a}F. Then h∘fh\circ f is Borel and square-integrable with respect to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta}, its class lies in Da1,2(γβV)\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}), and ∇aV(h∘f)\nabla^{V}_{a}(h\circ f) is the class of x↦h′(f(x)) g(x)x\mapsto h'(f(x))\,g(x).

4. (The Gibbs measure) γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta} has finite intrinsic Fisher information relative to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta} with weights aa, and IaV(γβV)=0\mathcal{I}^{V}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta})=0.

For claims 5 to 7, let μ∈P(X)\mu\in\mathcal{P}(X) have finite intrinsic Fisher information relative to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta} with weights aa, let ff be a density of μ\mu relative to γβV\gamma^{V}_{\beta} such that the class of f\sqrt{f} lies in Da1,2(γβV)\mathbb{D}^{1,2}_{a}(\gamma^{V}_{\beta}), let gg be a map in the class ∇aVf\nabla^{V}_{a}\sqrt{f}, and let ζ:X→Xa\zeta:X\to X^{a} be given by ζ(x)=2g(x)/f(x)\zeta(x)=2g(x)/\sqrt{f(x)} if f(x)>0f(x)>0 and ζ(x)=0\zeta(x)=0 if f(x)=0f(x)=0.

5. (The score field) The class of ζ\zeta lies in L2(μ;Xa)L^{2}(\mu;X^{a}) and does not depend on the choices of ff and gg.

6. (Its norm) ∥ζ∥μ2=IaV(μ)\lVert\zeta\rVert_{\mu}^{2}=\mathcal{I}^{V}_{a}(\mu).

7. (Integration by parts) Suppose moreover that μ∈P2(X)\mu\in\mathcal{P}_{2}(X) and that ∂kV\partial_{k}V is integrable with respect to μ\mu for every k∈Nk\in\mathbb{N}. Then for every ψ∈FCb2(X)\psi\in\mathcal{F}C^{2}_{b}(X) with a representation ψ=ψ~∘pn\psi=\tilde\psi\circ p_{n} (n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}), the functions x↦(xk/ck+∂kV(x)/β)∂kψ(x)−∂k∂kψ(x)x\mapsto\bigl(x_{k}/c_{k}+\partial_{k}V(x)/\beta\bigr)\partial_{k}\psi(x)-\partial_{k}\partial_{k}\psi(x) (k∈[n]k\in[n]) are integrable with respect to μ\mu, and

⟨ζ,∇aψ⟩μ=∑k=1nak∫X((xkck+∂kV(x)β)∂kψ(x)−∂k∂kψ(x))μ(dx).\langle\zeta,\nabla_{a}\psi\rangle_{\mu}=\sum_{k=1}^{n}a_{k}\int_{X}\Bigl(\Bigl(\frac{x_{k}}{c_{k}}+\frac{\partial_{k}V(x)}{\beta}\Bigr)\partial_{k}\psi(x)-\partial_{k}\partial_{k}\psi(x)\Bigr)\mu(dx).
