Power Series Are Holomorphic and Are Differentiated Term by Term

If the series of |c_k| ρ^(k-1) converges for every radius ρ below R (or for every radius), the power series of the ckc_k defines a holomorphic function on the open disk of radius R (or on the whole plane), whose derivative is the termwise derived power series.

Statement

In the setting of Complex Analysis: Standing Notation, let (ck)(c_{k}) be a sequence in C\mathbb{C}. For k∈Nk\in\mathbb{N}, k−1∈N0k-1\in\mathbb{N}_{0} is the difference; convergence and sums of series in C\mathbb{C} are as in Series of Complex Numbers: Partial Sums, Convergence, the Sum and Absolute Convergence (ii) and absolute convergence as in Series of Complex Numbers: Partial Sums, Convergence, the Sum and Absolute Convergence (iii); complex derivatives are as in The Complex Derivative at a Point (ii), and holomorphic functions and their derivatives as in Holomorphic Functions and Their Derivatives (i) and Holomorphic Functions and Their Derivatives (ii).

Power series on a disk. Let R>0R>0 be a real number such that ∑k=1∞∣ck∣ ρk−1\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}|c_{k}|\,\rho^{k-1} converges for every real ρ\rho with 0<ρ<R0<\rho<R, and let D={z∈C:∣z∣<R}D=\{z\in\mathbb{C}:|z|<R\}. Then DD is open in (C,dC)(\mathbb{C},d_{\mathbb{C}}); for every z∈Dz\in D the series

∑k=1∞ckzk−1and∑k=1∞k ck+1zk−1\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}c_{k}z^{k-1}\qquad\text{and}\qquad\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}k\,c_{k+1}z^{k-1}

converge absolutely; and the function f:D→Cf:D\to\mathbb{C}, f(z)=∑k=1∞ckzk−1f(z)=\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}c_{k}z^{k-1} (Complex Power Series: the Sequence of Terms and the Sum as a Function on the Set of Convergence (iii)), is holomorphic on DD, with

f′(z)=∑k=1∞k ck+1zk−1(z∈D).f'(z)=\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}k\,c_{k+1}z^{k-1}\qquad(z\in D).

Power series on the plane. Suppose that ∑k=1∞∣ck∣ ρk−1\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}|c_{k}|\,\rho^{k-1} converges for every real ρ>0\rho>0. Then for every z∈Cz\in\mathbb{C} the two series displayed in (i) converge absolutely; and the function f:C→Cf:\mathbb{C}\to\mathbb{C}, f(z)=∑k=1∞ckzk−1f(z)=\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}c_{k}z^{k-1}, is holomorphic on C\mathbb{C}, with

f′(z)=∑k=1∞k ck+1zk−1(z∈C).f'(z)=\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}k\,c_{k+1}z^{k-1}\qquad(z\in\mathbb{C}).
