The Wall-Confined Free Energy and Its Score

The wall-confined free energy is a free entropy penalty plus the wall energy of radius R; its score, defined where the conjugate variables and the wall force exist, is the wall force minus the conjugate variables.

Statement

In the setting of Noncommutative Laws, Couplings and the Wasserstein Distance: Standing Notation, let (D0,E0)(\mathcal{D}_{0},\mathcal{E}_{0}) be a free entropy penalty and let R>0R>0 be real. DR\mathcal{D}_{R}, WR\mathcal{W}_{R} and FRF^{R} are the domain, the wall energy and the wall force of radius RR, and ξλ=(ξλ,1,…,ξλ,d)\xi_{\lambda}=(\xi_{\lambda,1},\dots,\xi_{\lambda,d}) denotes the conjugate variables of a law λ\lambda that has them.

1. (Energy) The wall-confined free energy of (D0,E0)(\mathcal{D}_{0},\mathcal{E}_{0}) with radius RR is the function E:D→R\mathcal{E}:\mathcal{D}\to\mathbb{R} on D=D0∩DR\mathcal{D}=\mathcal{D}_{0}\cap\mathcal{D}_{R} given by E(λ)=E0(λ)+WR(λ)\mathcal{E}(\lambda)=\mathcal{E}_{0}(\lambda)+\mathcal{W}_{R}(\lambda).

2. (Score) The score domain DΞ\mathcal{D}_{\Xi} is the set of λ∈D\lambda\in\mathcal{D} that have conjugate variables and a square-integrable wall force of radius RR. For λ∈DΞ\lambda\in\mathcal{D}_{\Xi} the score of λ\lambda is

Ξ(λ)=(F1R(λ)−ξλ,1,…,FdR(λ)−ξλ,d)∈Hλd.\Xi(\lambda)=\bigl(F^{R}_{1}(\lambda)-\xi_{\lambda,1},\dots,F^{R}_{d}(\lambda)-\xi_{\lambda,d}\bigr)\in\mathcal{H}_{\lambda}^{d}.
