Pointwise Operations on Real-Valued Maps Exist and Are Unique

For a set I, pointwise sum and product, scalar multiplication, negation and constant maps exist uniquely on the set of real-valued maps on I.

Statement

In the setting of Metric Spaces: Balls, the Metric Topology, and the Real and Complex Numbers as Metric Spaces, let II be a set, and let RI\mathbb{R}^{I} be the set of maps from II to R\mathbb{R}.

For each of the operations ++ and ⋅\cdot of R\mathbb{R}, written ∗\ast, there is exactly one binary operation ⊛\circledast on RI\mathbb{R}^{I} such that (f⊛g)(p)=f(p)∗g(p)(f\circledast g)(p)=f(p)\ast g(p) for all f,g∈RIf,g\in\mathbb{R}^{I} and p∈Ip\in I.

There is exactly one map μ:R×RI→RI\mu:\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^{I}\to\mathbb{R}^{I} such that μ(t,f)(p)=t f(p)\mu(t,f)(p)=t\,f(p) for all t∈Rt\in\mathbb{R}, f∈RIf\in\mathbb{R}^{I} and p∈Ip\in I.

There is exactly one map ν:RI→RI\nu:\mathbb{R}^{I}\to\mathbb{R}^{I} such that ν(f)(p)=−f(p)\nu(f)(p)=-f(p) for all f∈RIf\in\mathbb{R}^{I} and p∈Ip\in I.

For every c∈Rc\in\mathbb{R} there is exactly one h∈RIh\in\mathbb{R}^{I} such that h(p)=ch(p)=c for all p∈Ip\in I.
