Transpositions of [n]

For distinct p and q in [n], the transposition of p and q is the permutation of [n] that swaps p and q and fixes every other point.

Statement

In the setting of The Natural Numbers and the Natural Numbers with Zero: Arithmetic, Order, Induction and Recursion, let n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}, with [n][n] as in Intervals of Natural Numbers §segment and SnS_{n} as in Permutations of a Set and the Set of Permutations of [n] §permutations.

For p,q∈[n]p,q\in[n] with p≠qp\neq q, the transposition of pp and qq is the map θpq∈Sn\theta_{pq}\in S_{n} of Permutations of [n]: Identity, Composition, Inverses, Translations and Transpositions §transposition; thus θpq(p)=q\theta_{pq}(p)=q, θpq(q)=p\theta_{pq}(q)=p, and θpq(k)=k\theta_{pq}(k)=k for every k∈[n]k\in[n] with k≠pk\neq p and k≠qk\neq q.
