Order and Arithmetic of ℕ₀ in Flat Form

The order, successor, addition, cancellation and multiplication laws of the natural numbers with zero, the natural numbers as the numbers j+1, and basic facts on the segments [n], each as a separate flat statement.

Statement

In the setting of Routine Facts Used Without Citation: Arithmetic, Maps, Predicativity and Indices, let N0\mathbb{N}_{0}, N\mathbb{N}, 00 and 11 be as in The Natural Numbers and the Natural Numbers with Zero: Arithmetic, Order, Induction and Recursion (ii), ++ and ⋅\cdot the addition and multiplication, ≤\le and << the order and strict order of N0\mathbb{N}_{0}, and [n][n] the segment. Let m,n,p∈N0m,n,p\in\mathbb{N}_{0} and q∈Nq\in\mathbb{N}.

Order. n≤nn\le n; if m≤nm\le n and n≤pn\le p then m≤pm\le p; if m≤nm\le n and n≤mn\le m then m=nm=n; m≤nm\le n or n≤mn\le m; 0≤n0\le n; n≤n+mn\le n+m; n<n+1n<n+1; and

m<n  ⟺  (m≤n and m≠n),m<n+1  ⟺  m≤n.m<n\iff\bigl(m\le n\text{ and }m\neq n\bigr),\qquad m<n+1\iff m\le n.

Successor. The successor of nn is n+1n+1; n+1≠0n+1\neq0; 1∈N01\in\mathbb{N}_{0}; and n+1∈N0n+1\in\mathbb{N}_{0}.

Addition. m+n∈N0m+n\in\mathbb{N}_{0}, and

m+0=m,0+m=m,m+n=n+m,(m+n)+p=m+(n+p).m+0=m,\qquad 0+m=m,\qquad m+n=n+m,\qquad (m+n)+p=m+(n+p).

Cancellation. If m+p=n+pm+p=n+p, then m=nm=n; if p+m=p+np+m=p+n, then m=nm=n.

Multiplication. m⋅n∈N0m\cdot n\in\mathbb{N}_{0}, and

m⋅1=m,m⋅n=n⋅m,m⋅0=0,(m⋅n)⋅p=m⋅(n⋅p),m⋅(n+p)=m⋅n+m⋅p.m\cdot1=m,\qquad m\cdot n=n\cdot m,\qquad m\cdot0=0,\qquad (m\cdot n)\cdot p=m\cdot(n\cdot p),\qquad m\cdot(n+p)=m\cdot n+m\cdot p.

Natural numbers. For every class xx: x∈Nx\in\mathbb{N} if and only if x=j+1x=j+1 for some j∈N0j\in\mathbb{N}_{0}. Every element of N\mathbb{N} lies in N0\mathbb{N}_{0}, and q+m∈Nq+m\in\mathbb{N}.

Segments. q∈[q]q\in[q]; every element of [n][n] lies in [n+1][n+1] and in N\mathbb{N}; and [n][n] is finite.
