Conditional Expectations: Notation

Standing notation for conditional expectations: a sub-σ-algebra G of F, G-measurable and Borel functions, and pointwise products of random variables and random vectors.

Statement

Base. This setting extends Probability Spaces: Notation: its conventions and notation are in force. Unless stated otherwise, G\mathcal{G} denotes a σ\sigma-algebra on Ω\Omega with G⊆F\mathcal{G}\subseteq\mathcal{F}.

G\mathcal{G}-measurable and Borel functions. Let n,p,q∈Nn,p,q\in\mathbb{N}. For a σ\sigma-algebra G\mathcal{G} on Ω\Omega with G⊆F\mathcal{G}\subseteq\mathcal{F}, a function from Ω\Omega into R\mathbb{R}, Rn\mathbb{R}^{n} or Rp×q\mathbb{R}^{p\times q} is G\mathcal{G}-measurable if it is G/B(R)\mathcal{G}/\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})-, G/B(Rn)\mathcal{G}/\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}^{n})-, respectively G/B(Rp×q)\mathcal{G}/\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}^{p\times q})-measurable, as in Measurable Map, and the Set of Measurable Maps (iii), Measurable Map, and the Set of Measurable Maps (iv) and Measurable Map, and the Set of Measurable Maps (v) on (Ω,G)(\Omega,\mathcal{G}). For a metric space (S,d)(S,d), a function from SS into R\mathbb{R} or Rn\mathbb{R}^{n} is Borel if it is B(S)/B(R)\mathcal{B}(S)/\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})-, respectively B(S)/B(Rn)\mathcal{B}(S)/\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}^{n})-measurable, as in Measurable Map, and the Set of Measurable Maps (iii) and Measurable Map, and the Set of Measurable Maps (iv) on (S,B(S))(S,\mathcal{B}(S)).

Products. For n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}, functions W:Ω→RW:\Omega\to\mathbb{R} and U,V:Ω→RnU,V:\Omega\to\mathbb{R}^{n}, and R∈Rn×nR\in\mathbb{R}^{n\times n}, WUWU, U⋅VU\cdot V and U⋅(RV)U\cdot(RV) are the functions

ω↦W(ω)U(ω),ω↦U(ω)⋅V(ω),ω↦U(ω)⋅(RV(ω))\omega\mapsto W(\omega)U(\omega),\qquad\omega\mapsto U(\omega)\cdot V(\omega),\qquad\omega\mapsto U(\omega)\cdot\bigl(RV(\omega)\bigr)

on Ω\Omega, formed with the dot product and the matrix-vector product (Maps Formed Pointwise from Vector and Matrix Operations (i), Maps Formed Pointwise: Constant Maps, Pairs of Values, Maps Applied to Values, and Families of Maps (iii)).
