Small Facts about [0,∞]: Zero, Finiteness and Sums of Zeros

An element of [0,∞] that is at most 0 is 0; an element of [0,∞] is below ∞ exactly when it is real; an element below a finite one is finite; and the sum of a sequence of zeros in [0,∞] is 0.

Statement

In the setting of Routine Facts Used Without Citation: Arithmetic, Maps, Predicativity and Indices, let ∞\infty, [−∞,∞][-\infty,\infty], [0,∞][0,\infty], the order ≤\le and the relation << be as in The Extended Real Line, Its Order, and [0,∞] (i), The Extended Real Line, Its Order, and [0,∞] (ii) and The Extended Real Line, Its Order, and [0,∞] (iii), let 00 be the zero of R\mathbb{R}, an element of [0,∞][0,\infty] as in The Extended Real Line, Its Order, and [0,∞] (ii), and let sums of sequences in [0,∞][0,\infty] be as in Sum of a Sequence in [0,∞] (ii).

If a∈[0,∞]a\in[0,\infty] and a≤0a\le0, then a=0a=0.

For a∈[0,∞]a\in[0,\infty]: a<∞a<\infty if and only if a∈Ra\in\mathbb{R}.

If a,b∈[0,∞]a,b\in[0,\infty], a≤ba\le b and b<∞b<\infty, then a<∞a<\infty, and hence a∈Ra\in\mathbb{R}.

If (ak)(a_{k}) is a sequence in [0,∞][0,\infty] with ak=0a_{k}=0 for every k∈Nk\in\mathbb{N}, then ∑k∈Nak=0\sum_{k\in\mathbb{N}}a_{k}=0.
