Comparison at a Fixed Level for Envelope Viscosity Solutions of the Discounted HJB Equation with Free Langevin Noise in a Wall

At each fixed level delta, the upper penalty envelope of a bounded envelope subsolution lies below the lower penalty envelope of a bounded envelope supersolution up to an error e(delta) that tends to zero with delta and depends only on the sup-norm bound and the data.

Statement

In the setting of The Discounted HJB Equation with Free Langevin Noise in a Wall, Envelope Form: Standing Notation, suppose D\mathcal{D} is nonempty, for bounded w:Σd2→Rw:\Sigma^{2}_{d}\to\mathbb{R} let wδ∓w^{\mp}_{\delta} be its penalty envelopes as in The Discounted HJB Equation with Free Langevin Noise in a Wall, Envelope Form: Standing Notation §envelopes, and assume that the Hamiltonian H\mathcal{H} satisfies the structure condition at bounded positions, is uniformly continuous in the momentum at bounded positions, and absorbs shifts at noise level σ\sigma. Let b≥0b\ge0 and δ0>0\delta_{0}>0 be real.

There is a function ϵ:(0,δ0]→[0,∞)\epsilon:(0,\delta_{0}]\to[0,\infty) with ϵ(δ)→0\epsilon(\delta)\to0 as δ→0\delta\to0 (that is, for every real η>0\eta>0 there is a real δ1>0\delta_{1}>0 with ϵ(δ)<η\epsilon(\delta)<\eta whenever δ\delta lies in the domain of ϵ\epsilon and δ<δ1\delta<\delta_{1}) such that the following holds. For every real δ\delta with 0<δ≤δ00<\delta\le\delta_{0}, every envelope viscosity subsolution uu and every envelope viscosity supersolution vv of (E)(\mathrm{E}) with shift range δ0\delta_{0} and ∣u∣≤b|u|\le b, ∣v∣≤b|v|\le b on Σd2\Sigma^{2}_{d},

uδ−(μ)≤vδ+(μ)+ϵ(δ)for every μ∈D.u^{-}_{\delta}(\mu)\le v^{+}_{\delta}(\mu)+\epsilon(\delta)\qquad\text{for every }\mu\in\mathcal{D}.
