Defines the type Natural of natural numbers with zero, with the operations, order and numerals of the natural numbers with zero, under which it is a commutative semiring with cancellation and a linearly ordered additive structure.
In the setting of Routine Facts Used Without Citation: Arithmetic, Maps, Predicativity and Indices, with , and as in The Natural Numbers and the Natural Numbers with Zero: Arithmetic, Order, Induction and Recursion (ii):
The type. is the type whose elements are the natural numbers with zero: an element of is a set , carried with the fact that it lies in , and two elements are equal when their sets are (the one place where a natural number is handled as a set, as a type requires).
Operations. The elements and , the operations and and the relations and of are those of : the sets of and are and ; the set of is the sum of the sets of and under the addition, which lies in by that definition; the set of is their product under the multiplication, which also lies in ; and , respectively , holds when the sets of and are related by the order, respectively the strict order, of . In particular the set of is the successor of the set of , by Natural Numbers Are the Successors in Omega: One Is Least and Not a Successor of a Natural Number, the Successor Is Injective, and N Is Closed under Addition and Multiplication (v).
Numerals. Numerals (natural numbers of the ambient mathematics, not elements of ) and powers are read recursively: the numeral is read as , as and as ; and ; and is the product of the reading of with .
Since an element of is determined by its set, the laws of hold for these operations and this order; below, , and are elements of .
Commutative semiring. The laws of a commutative semiring hold:
(Arithmetic of Addition on Omega: Recursion Rules, Associativity, Commutativity, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (iii), Arithmetic of Addition on Omega: Recursion Rules, Associativity, Commutativity, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (iv), Arithmetic of Addition on Omega: Recursion Rules, Associativity, Commutativity, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (i), Arithmetic of Multiplication on Omega: Recursion Rules, Distributivity, Associativity, Commutativity, No Zero Divisors, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (v), Arithmetic of Multiplication on Omega: Recursion Rules, Distributivity, Associativity, Commutativity, No Zero Divisors, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (vi), Arithmetic of Multiplication on Omega: Recursion Rules, Distributivity, Associativity, Commutativity, No Zero Divisors, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (iii) as is the successor of by The Set of Natural Numbers and the Number One (ii), Arithmetic of Multiplication on Omega: Recursion Rules, Distributivity, Associativity, Commutativity, No Zero Divisors, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (i), Arithmetic of Multiplication on Omega: Recursion Rules, Distributivity, Associativity, Commutativity, No Zero Divisors, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (iv)); and the reading of a numeral is the reading of plus (for because ).
Cancellation. Addition cancels on both sides: implies , and implies (Arithmetic of Addition on Omega: Recursion Rules, Associativity, Commutativity, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (v), with Arithmetic of Addition on Omega: Recursion Rules, Associativity, Commutativity, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (iv)).
Order. on is reflexive, antisymmetric, transitive and total, as is a well-order on (The Order on Omega Is a Well-Order with Membership as Its Strict Order, and Nothing Lies between n and Its Successor (i)) and hence a total order (Well-Orders on a Set (i)); holds exactly when and not (The Order on Omega Is a Well-Order with Membership as Its Strict Order, and Nothing Lies between n and Its Successor (ii), with antisymmetry); and
(The Order on Omega Is a Well-Order with Membership as Its Strict Order, and Nothing Lies between n and Its Successor (iii), The Order on Omega Is a Well-Order with Membership as Its Strict Order, and Nothing Lies between n and Its Successor (iv) and The Order on Omega Is a Well-Order with Membership as Its Strict Order, and Nothing Lies between n and Its Successor (vi), as is the successor of by Natural Numbers Are the Successors in Omega: One Is Least and Not a Successor of a Natural Number, the Successor Is Injective, and N Is Closed under Addition and Multiplication (v)).
Order and addition. if and only if (Arithmetic of Addition on Omega: Recursion Rules, Associativity, Commutativity, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (vi), with Arithmetic of Addition on Omega: Recursion Rules, Associativity, Commutativity, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (iv)), and if and only if for some (Arithmetic of Addition on Omega: Recursion Rules, Associativity, Commutativity, Cancellation and Compatibility with the Order (vii)); in particular , and if then for some with (take , where as ; then by (vi), as ).
In Lean these clauses are the classes ; ; and ; and and .
