Linear Subspace of a Real Vector Space

A subset of a real vector space is a linear subspace if it contains the zero vector and is closed under sums and real multiples.

Statement

In the setting of Separable Real Normed Spaces and Hahn–Banach: Notation, let VV be a real vector space with zero vector 0V0_{V}, and let W⊆VW\subseteq V.

Zero. 0V∈W0_{V}\in W.

Sums. u+v∈Wu+v\in W for all u,v∈Wu,v\in W.

Multiples. λu∈W\lambda u\in W for all λ∈R\lambda\in\mathbb{R} and u∈Wu\in W.

Linear subspace. WW is a linear subspace of VV if it satisfies (i), (ii) and (iii).
