The Deletion Index Map

For n at least 2 and i in [n], the deletion index map sis_i from [n-1] to [n] keeps the numbers below i and raises the others by one, skipping i.

Statement

In the setting of Routine Facts Used Without Citation: Arithmetic, Maps, Predicativity and Indices, let n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N} with 2≤n2\le n and let i∈[n]i\in[n], with [n][n] and [n−1][n-1] as in Intervals of Natural Numbers §segment and the difference n−1∈Nn-1\in\mathbb{N} as in The Index Map Skipping One Element of [n] §difference.

The deletion index map si:[n−1]→[n]s_{i}:[n-1]\to[n] is the map ss of The Index Map Skipping One Element of [n] §map, so that si(k)=ks_{i}(k)=k for every k∈[n−1]k\in[n-1] with k<ik<i and si(k)=k+1s_{i}(k)=k+1 for every k∈[n−1]k\in[n-1] with i≤ki\le k.
