Shift Semicontinuity of a Hamiltonian on Phase-Space Noncommutative Laws

Along strongly convergent bounded positions and momenta and weakly convergent bounded shifts in one tracial W*-probability space, the Hamiltonian with an upward shift plus the good quadratic term is lower semicontinuous, and with a downward shift minus that term is upper semicontinuous.

Statement

In the setting of Plan Jets and Hamiltonians on Square-Integrable Noncommutative Laws: Standing Notation, let H:Σ2d2→R\mathcal{H}:\Sigma^{2}_{2d}\to\mathbb{R}, with lifts HM\mathcal{H}_{M} as in Plan Jets and Hamiltonians on Square-Integrable Noncommutative Laws: Standing Notation §lifts, and let σ>0\sigma>0 be real. Sums and real multiples of L2L^{2} dd-tuples are those of Plan Jets and Hamiltonians on Square-Integrable Noncommutative Laws: Standing Notation §pairing and the L2L^{2} norm ∥⋅∥2\lVert\cdot\rVert_{2} is that of Tracial W*-Probability Spaces and Square-Integrable Tuples: Standing Notation §tuples. For a tracial W*-probability space (H,M,Ω)(H,M,\Omega), L2L^{2} dd-tuples X,P,QX,P,Q of it and real δ>0\delta>0, write

Gδ+(X,P,Q)=HM(X,P+δQ)+σ2δ2∥Q∥22,Gδ−(X,P,Q)=HM(X,P−δQ)−σ2δ2∥Q∥22.G^{+}_{\delta}(X,P,Q)=\mathcal{H}_{M}(X,P+\delta Q)+\frac{\sigma^{2}\delta}{2}\lVert Q\rVert_{2}^{2},\qquad G^{-}_{\delta}(X,P,Q)=\mathcal{H}_{M}(X,P-\delta Q)-\frac{\sigma^{2}\delta}{2}\lVert Q\rVert_{2}^{2}.

Shift-convergent sequences are those of Shift-Convergent Sequences of Positions, Momenta and Shifts in a Tracial W*-Probability Space §sequence.

1. (Lower shift semicontinuity) H\mathcal{H} is lower shift-semicontinuous at noise level σ\sigma if for every real r>0r>0 there is a real δ0>0\delta_{0}>0 such that, for every tracial W*-probability space (H,M,Ω)(H,M,\Omega), every shift-convergent sequence (Xn,Pn,Qn)→(X,P,Q)(X_{n},P_{n},Q_{n})\to(X,P,Q) at radius rr in it, every real δ\delta with 0<δ≤δ00<\delta\le\delta_{0} and every real ε>0\varepsilon>0, there is N∈NN\in\mathbb{N} with

Gδ+(X,P,Q)≤Gδ+(Xn,Pn,Qn)+εfor every n≥N.G^{+}_{\delta}(X,P,Q)\le G^{+}_{\delta}(X_{n},P_{n},Q_{n})+\varepsilon\qquad\text{for every }n\ge N.

2. (Upper shift semicontinuity) H\mathcal{H} is upper shift-semicontinuous at noise level σ\sigma if for every real r>0r>0 there is a real δ0>0\delta_{0}>0 such that, for every tracial W*-probability space (H,M,Ω)(H,M,\Omega), every shift-convergent sequence (Xn,Pn,Qn)→(X,P,Q)(X_{n},P_{n},Q_{n})\to(X,P,Q) at radius rr in it, every real δ\delta with 0<δ≤δ00<\delta\le\delta_{0} and every real ε>0\varepsilon>0, there is N∈NN\in\mathbb{N} with

Gδ−(Xn,Pn,Qn)≤Gδ−(X,P,Q)+εfor every n≥N.G^{-}_{\delta}(X_{n},P_{n},Q_{n})\le G^{-}_{\delta}(X,P,Q)+\varepsilon\qquad\text{for every }n\ge N.

3. (Shift semicontinuity) H\mathcal{H} is shift-semicontinuous at noise level σ\sigma if it is both lower and upper shift-semicontinuous at noise level σ\sigma.
