Minus the Free Entropy Is Bounded Below on Bounded Laws and Has Weak-Star Closed Sublevel Sets

Minus the free entropy is bounded below on laws with a norm bound and has weak-star closed sublevel sets there, so it satisfies the lower-bound and closed-sublevel clauses of a free entropy penalty.

Statement

In the setting of Free Products, Semicircular Laws, the Free Heat Flow, Free Fisher Information and Free Entropy: Standing Notation, let −χ∗:Dχ→R-\chi^{*}:\mathcal{D}_{\chi}\to\mathbb{R} be the map λ↦−χ∗(λ)\lambda\mapsto-\chi^{*}(\lambda).

1. (Lower bound) For every real R>0R>0 and every λ∈Dχ∩Σd,R\lambda\in\mathcal{D}_{\chi}\cap\Sigma_{d,R},

−χ∗(λ)≥−d2log⁡(2πe R2).-\chi^{*}(\lambda)\ge-\frac{d}{2}\log(2\pi e\,R^{2}).

Hence the pair (Dχ,−χ∗)(\mathcal{D}_{\chi},-\chi^{*}) satisfies the lower bound clause of a free entropy penalty.

2. (Closed sublevel sets) The pair (Dχ,−χ∗)(\mathcal{D}_{\chi},-\chi^{*}) satisfies the closed sublevel set clause of a free entropy penalty: for all reals R>0R>0 and cc, and every sequence (λk)k∈N(\lambda_{k})_{k\in\mathbb{N}} in Dχ∩Σd,R\mathcal{D}_{\chi}\cap\Sigma_{d,R} with −χ∗(λk)≤c-\chi^{*}(\lambda_{k})\le c for every kk that converges weak-star to some λ∈Σd\lambda\in\Sigma_{d}, one has λ∈Dχ\lambda\in\mathcal{D}_{\chi} and −χ∗(λ)≤c-\chi^{*}(\lambda)\le c.
