Nonnegative Measurable Maps and Null Sets: Constant Maps, the Pointwise-Sum Operation on 𝓜⁺, and Complements of Measure-Zero Sets

Constant maps into [0,∞] are measurable, the pointwise sum is an associative and commutative binary operation on 𝓜⁺ with the zero map as neutral element, and the complement of a measure-zero set holds almost everywhere.

Statement

In the setting of Measure Spaces, Borel Sets and Lebesgue Measure on the Real Line: Standing Notation: for a σ\sigma-algebra F\mathcal{F} on a set XX, M+(X,F)\mathcal{M}^{+}(X,\mathcal{F}) is the set of measurable maps into [0,∞][0,\infty] of Nonnegative Measurable Maps and Their Lebesgue Integral (i); for maps f,g:X→[0,∞]f,g:X\to[0,\infty], f+gf+g is their pointwise sum; and binary operations, their values u⊕vu\oplus v (Binary Operations on a Set (ii)), and associative and commutative binary operations and their neutral elements are as in Binary Operations on a Set and Associative and Commutative Binary Operations, and Neutral Elements.

Let F\mathcal{F} be a σ\sigma-algebra on a set XX, let c∈[0,∞]c\in[0,\infty], and let g:X→[0,∞]g:X\to[0,\infty] be a map with g(x)=cg(x)=c for every x∈Xx\in X. Then g∈M+(X,F)g\in\mathcal{M}^{+}(X,\mathcal{F}).

Let (X,F,μ)(X,\mathcal{F},\mu) be a measure space. There are a binary operation ⊕\oplus on M+(X,F)\mathcal{M}^{+}(X,\mathcal{F}) and a map z:X→[0,∞]z:X\to[0,\infty] with z(x)=0z(x)=0 for every x∈Xx\in X such that ⊕\oplus is associative and commutative, zz is a neutral element of ⊕\oplus, and

f⊕g=f+gfor all f,g∈M+(X,F).f\oplus g=f+g\qquad\text{for all }f,g\in\mathcal{M}^{+}(X,\mathcal{F}).

Let (X,F,μ)(X,\mathcal{F},\mu) be a measure space, and let Z∈FZ\in\mathcal{F} with μ(Z)=0\mu(Z)=0. Then the difference X∖ZX\setminus Z holds μ\mu-almost everywhere.
