Borel Sets of a Variable Metric Space as a Predicative Condition, and the Families of σ-Algebras Generated by Random Elements and of Their Composites

Being a metric space, lying in a ball, being open, being a σ-algebra on a set and being a Borel set are predicative conditions with the space and the metric as variables; consequently, for families of random elements indexed by an arbitrary set, the families of their generated σ-algebras and of their composites with maps exist and are unique.

Statement

In the setting of Probability Spaces: Notation; the first five clauses are statements of the metatheory. Conditions expressed by a predicative formula are as in Conditions Expressed by a Predicative Formula, and Guards (ii), with parameters and their fixed values as in Conditions Expressed by a Predicative Formula, and Guards (i); the parameters R\mathbb{R}, ≤\le, <<, ++, 00 and N\mathbb{N} have the fixed values the set of real numbers, its order, its strict order, its addition, its zero, and the set N\mathbb{N} of The Natural Numbers and the Natural Numbers with Zero: Arithmetic, Order, Induction and Recursion (ii). Families indexed by a set JJ are as in Indexed Families of Sets and Their Union, Intersection and Product (i).

Metric spaces. Let SS and dd be distinct set variables. The condition "(S,d)(S,d) is a metric space" is expressed by a predicative formula with parameters R\mathbb{R}, ≤\le, ++ and 00.

Open balls. Let SS, dd, xx, rr and yy be distinct set variables. The condition "(S,d)(S,d) is a metric space, x∈Sx\in S, r∈Rr\in\mathbb{R}, r>0r>0 and y∈Bd(x,r)y\in B_{d}(x,r)", with the open ball Bd(x,r)B_{d}(x,r), is expressed by a predicative formula with parameters R\mathbb{R}, ≤\le, <<, ++ and 00.

Open sets. Let SS, dd and UU be distinct set variables. The condition "(S,d)(S,d) is a metric space and U∈TdU\in\mathcal{T}_{d}", with Td\mathcal{T}_{d} the set of subsets of SS that are open in (S,d)(S,d), is expressed by a predicative formula with parameters R\mathbb{R}, ≤\le, <<, ++ and 00.

σ\sigma-algebras on a variable set. Let GG and YY be distinct set variables. The condition "GG is a σ\sigma-algebra on YY" is expressed by a predicative formula with parameter N\mathbb{N}.

Borel sets of a variable metric space. Let BB, SS and dd be distinct set variables. The condition "(S,d)(S,d) is a metric space and B∈B(S,d)B\in\mathcal{B}(S,d)", with the Borel σ\sigma-algebra B(S,d)\mathcal{B}(S,d), is expressed by a predicative formula with parameters R\mathbb{R}, ≤\le, <<, ++, 00 and N\mathbb{N}.

The family (σ(Xj))j∈J(\sigma(X_{j}))_{j\in J}. Let JJ be a set and let (Sj)j∈J(S_{j})_{j\in J}, (dj)j∈J(d_{j})_{j\in J} and (Xj)j∈J(X_{j})_{j\in J} be families such that, for every j∈Jj\in J, (Sj,dj)(S_{j},d_{j}) is a metric space and XjX_{j} is a random element of SjS_{j}. Then there is exactly one family (Gj)j∈J(\mathcal{G}_{j})_{j\in J} with

Gj=σ(Xj)(j∈J),\mathcal{G}_{j}=\sigma(X_{j})\qquad(j\in J),

where σ(Xj)\sigma(X_{j}) is the σ\sigma-algebra generated by XjX_{j}.

The family (gj(Xj))j∈J(g_{j}(X_{j}))_{j\in J}. Let JJ be a set and let (Sj)j∈J(S_{j})_{j\in J}, (Tj)j∈J(T_{j})_{j\in J}, (Xj)j∈J(X_{j})_{j\in J} and (gj)j∈J(g_{j})_{j\in J} be families such that, for every j∈Jj\in J, Xj:Ω→SjX_{j}:\Omega\to S_{j} and gj:Sj→Tjg_{j}:S_{j}\to T_{j} are maps. Then there is exactly one family (Yj)j∈J(Y_{j})_{j\in J} with

Yj=gj(Xj)(j∈J).Y_{j}=g_{j}(X_{j})\qquad(j\in J).
