Weak-Star Convergence in the Dual of a Real Normed Space

A sequence of bounded linear functionals on a real normed space converges weak-star to a bounded linear functional F if its values at every point converge to the value of F there.

Statement

In the setting of Locally Compact Metric Spaces and Compactly Supported Functions: Standing Notation, let XX be a real normed space with dual space X∗X^{*}, let (Fm)m∈N(F_{m})_{m\in\mathbb{N}} be a sequence in X∗X^{*}, and let F∈X∗F\in X^{*}.

Weak-star convergence. (Fm)(F_{m}) converges weak-star to FF, written Fm⇀∗FF_{m}\overset{*}{\rightharpoonup}F, if the real sequences (Fm(x))m∈N(F_{m}(x))_{m\in\mathbb{N}} converge as follows:

Fm(x)→F(x)for every x∈X.F_{m}(x)\to F(x)\qquad\text{for every }x\in X.
