Integrals with Respect to the Restriction of a Measure to a Sub-σ-Algebra

For a σ-algebra G contained in F, a G-measurable function has the same integral with respect to the restriction of μ to G as with respect to μ, over the whole space and over every set of G, and it is integrable for one measure exactly when it is for the other.

Statement

In the setting of Measurable Functions and the Lebesgue Integral: Standing Notation, let (X,F,μ)(X,\mathcal{F},\mu) be a measure space, let G⊆F\mathcal{G}\subseteq\mathcal{F} be a σ\sigma-algebra on XX, and let μ∣G\mu|_{\mathcal{G}} be the restriction of μ\mu to G\mathcal{G}, a measure on (X,G)(X,\mathcal{G}) (Finite Signed Measures from Finite Measures and from Integrals (iii)).

Nonnegative functions. Let f∈M+(X,G)f\in\mathcal{M}^{+}(X,\mathcal{G}). Then f∈M+(X,F)f\in\mathcal{M}^{+}(X,\mathcal{F}) and

∫Xf d(μ∣G)=∫Xf dμ.\int_{X}f\,d(\mu|_{\mathcal{G}})=\int_{X}f\,d\mu .

Real functions. Let f:X→Rf:X\to\mathbb{R} be G/B(R)\mathcal{G}/\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})-measurable. Then ff is F/B(R)\mathcal{F}/\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})-measurable, f∈L1(X,G,μ∣G)f\in\mathcal{L}^{1}(X,\mathcal{G},\mu|_{\mathcal{G}}) if and only if f∈L1(μ)f\in\mathcal{L}^{1}(\mu), and in that case

∫Xf d(μ∣G)=∫Xf dμ.\int_{X}f\,d(\mu|_{\mathcal{G}})=\int_{X}f\,d\mu .

Nonnegative functions over sets of G\mathcal{G}. Let G∈GG\in\mathcal{G} and f∈M+(X,G)f\in\mathcal{M}^{+}(X,\mathcal{G}). Then

∫Gf d(μ∣G)=∫Gf dμ.\int_{G}f\,d(\mu|_{\mathcal{G}})=\int_{G}f\,d\mu .

Real functions over sets of G\mathcal{G}. Let G∈GG\in\mathcal{G} and let f:X→Rf:X\to\mathbb{R} be G/B(R)\mathcal{G}/\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})-measurable. Then ff is integrable on GG with respect to μ∣G\mu|_{\mathcal{G}} if and only if it is integrable on GG with respect to μ\mu, and then ∫Gf d(μ∣G)=∫Gf dμ\int_{G}f\,d(\mu|_{\mathcal{G}})=\int_{G}f\,d\mu.
