Closed Subsets of Compact Sets Are Compact, and Compact Subsets of a Metric Space Are Closed and Bounded

In a topological space a closed subset of a compact subset is compact; in a metric space every compact subset is closed and bounded.

Statement

In the setting of Metric Spaces: Balls, the Metric Topology, and the Real and Complex Numbers as Metric Spaces:

Let (X,T)(X,\mathcal{T}) be a topological space, let K⊆XK\subseteq X be compact, and let C⊆KC\subseteq K be closed in (X,T)(X,\mathcal{T}). Then CC is compact in (X,T)(X,\mathcal{T}).

Let (X,d)(X,d) be a metric space, and let K⊆XK\subseteq X be compact in (X,Td)(X,\mathcal{T}_{d}). Then KK is closed in (X,Td)(X,\mathcal{T}_{d}) and bounded in (X,d)(X,d).
