One-Parameter Semigroups in a Monoid

A one-parameter semigroup (group) in a monoid is a function from [0,∞) (from ℝ) to the monoid that sends 0 to the identity and sums to products.

Statement

In the setting of Routine Facts, Continued: Typed Arithmetic, Maps and Predicativity, let (M,⋅)(M,\cdot) be a monoid with identity ee, products written by juxtaposition as in Semigroups (i).

One-parameter semigroups. A one-parameter semigroup in MM is a function TT from the ray [0,∞)[0,\infty) of Intervals of the Real Line (iii) to MM such that T(0)=eT(0)=e and

T(s+t)=T(s) T(t)for all s,t∈[0,∞).T(s+t)=T(s)\,T(t)\qquad\text{for all } s,t\in[0,\infty).
