Group Actions

An action of a group on a set is a function from pairs (group element, point) to points under which the identity acts trivially and acting by a product is acting successively.

Statement

In the setting of Routine Facts, Continued: Typed Arithmetic, Maps and Predicativity, let (G,⋅)(G,\cdot) be a group, let ee be its identity element, unique by Uniqueness of the Identity Element and of Inverses in a Group (i), and let XX be a set.

Group action. An action of GG on XX is a function from G×XG\times X to XX, whose value at (g,x)(g,x) is written g⋅xg\cdot x, such that for all g,h∈Gg,h\in G and x∈Xx\in X

e⋅x=xandg⋅(h⋅x)=(g⋅h)⋅x.e\cdot x=x\qquad\text{and}\qquad g\cdot(h\cdot x)=(g\cdot h)\cdot x.
