The Set of Coordinate Preimages of Borel Sets in ℝⁿ and of Entry Preimages in the Real Matrices

The sets π_i⁻¹(B), with i ∈ [n] and B a Borel subset of ℝ, form a set of subsets of ℝⁿ, and the sets E_ij⁻¹(B) form a set of subsets of the real p×q matrices; both are formed by set-builder from a predicative condition.

Statement

In the settings of Measure Spaces, Borel Sets and Lebesgue Measure on the Real Line: Standing Notation and Euclidean Space and Real Matrices: Standing Notation, let n,p,q∈Nn,p,q\in\mathbb{N}, let B(R)\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}) be the Borel σ\sigma-algebra of Borel Sigma-Algebra of a Metric Space (ii), and let P(Rn)\mathcal{P}(\mathbb{R}^{n}) and P(Mp×q(R))\mathcal{P}(\mathcal{M}_{p\times q}(\mathbb{R})) be the power sets of Rn\mathbb{R}^{n} and of Mp×q(R)\mathcal{M}_{p\times q}(\mathbb{R}). For i∈[n]i\in[n], πi:Rn→R\pi_{i}:\mathbb{R}^{n}\to\mathbb{R} is the ii-th component map of the identity idRn\mathrm{id}_{\mathbb{R}^{n}}, so πi(z)=zi\pi_{i}(z)=z_{i}; for i∈[p]i\in[p] and j∈[q]j\in[q], Eij:Mp×q(R)→RE_{ij}:\mathcal{M}_{p\times q}(\mathbb{R})\to\mathbb{R} is the entry map of the identity idMp×q(R)\mathrm{id}_{\mathcal{M}_{p\times q}(\mathbb{R})} in row ii and column jj, so Eij(A)=AijE_{ij}(A)=A_{ij}. Preimages are as in Sets and Maps: Ordinary Notation (vii).

There is exactly one set C\mathcal{C} with C⊆P(Rn)\mathcal{C}\subseteq\mathcal{P}(\mathbb{R}^{n}) such that, for every set CC: C∈CC\in\mathcal{C} if and only if C=πi−1(B)C=\pi_{i}^{-1}(B) for some i∈[n]i\in[n] and some B∈B(R)B\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}). It is written {πi−1(B):i∈[n], B∈B(R)}\{\pi_{i}^{-1}(B):i\in[n],\ B\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})\}.

There is exactly one set C′\mathcal{C}' with C′⊆P(Mp×q(R))\mathcal{C}'\subseteq\mathcal{P}(\mathcal{M}_{p\times q}(\mathbb{R})) such that, for every set CC: C∈C′C\in\mathcal{C}' if and only if C=Eij−1(B)C=E_{ij}^{-1}(B) for some i∈[p]i\in[p], some j∈[q]j\in[q] and some B∈B(R)B\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}). It is written {Eij−1(B):i∈[p], j∈[q], B∈B(R)}\{E_{ij}^{-1}(B):i\in[p],\ j\in[q],\ B\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})\}.
