Restricting a σ-Algebra or a Measure Twice

Restricting a class of sets to A and then to a subclass B of A is restricting it to B, and likewise for the restriction of a measure.

Statement

In the setting of Routine Facts Used Without Citation: Arithmetic, Maps, Predicativity and Indices, for classes F\mathcal{F}, μ\mu and AA let

FA={C∈F:C⊆A},μA=μ∣FA,\mathcal{F}_{A}=\{C\in\mathcal{F}:C\subseteq A\},\qquad \mu_{A}=\mu|_{\mathcal{F}_{A}},

formed by restricted class abstraction, with ⊆\subseteq the subclass relation and μ∣FA\mu|_{\mathcal{F}_{A}} the restriction of μ\mu to FA\mathcal{F}_{A}.

For all classes F\mathcal{F}, XX and AA with A⊆XA\subseteq X:

(FX)A=FA.(\mathcal{F}_{X})_{A}=\mathcal{F}_{A}.

For all classes F\mathcal{F}, μ\mu, AA and BB with B⊆AB\subseteq A, the restriction of μA\mu_{A} to (FA)B(\mathcal{F}_{A})_{B} is μB\mu_{B}:

(μA)∣(FA)B=μB.(\mu_{A})|_{(\mathcal{F}_{A})_{B}}=\mu_{B}.
