Elementwise Laws of a Commutative Ring

For elements x, y and z of a commutative ring, the closure of sums and products, the associative and commutative laws of addition and multiplication, the neutral laws of 0 and 1 on both sides, and the distributive laws on both sides.

Statement

This helper adopts the setting of Commutative Rings, Fields and Ordered Fields: Standard Notation. Let RR, with ++, ⋅\cdot, 00 and 11, be a commutative ring, and let x,y,z∈Rx,y,z\in R.

x+y∈Rx+y\in R, x⋅y∈Rx\cdot y\in R, 0∈R0\in R and 1∈R1\in R.

(x+y)+z=x+(y+z)(x+y)+z=x+(y+z).

x+y=y+xx+y=y+x.

x+0=xx+0=x and 0+x=x0+x=x.

(x⋅y)⋅z=x⋅(y⋅z)(x\cdot y)\cdot z=x\cdot(y\cdot z).

x⋅y=y⋅xx\cdot y=y\cdot x.

x⋅1=xx\cdot1=x and 1⋅x=x1\cdot x=x.

x⋅(y+z)=x⋅y+x⋅zx\cdot(y+z)=x\cdot y+x\cdot z and (x+y)⋅z=x⋅z+y⋅z(x+y)\cdot z=x\cdot z+y\cdot z.
