The Join of Two Compact Subsets of Rn\mathbb{R}^n is Compact

For compact subsets A and B of RnR^n, the set of all points (1-s)a+sb with a in A, b in B and s in [0,1] is compact.

Statement

In the setting of Convex Sets in Rn\mathbb{R}^n: Standing Notation, let A,B⊆RnA,B\subseteq\mathbb{R}^{n} be compact.

Compactness of the join. The set

J(A,B)={(1−s)a+sb: a∈A, b∈B, s∈[0,1]}J(A,B)=\{(1-s)a+sb:\ a\in A,\ b\in B,\ s\in[0,1]\}

is a compact subset of Rn\mathbb{R}^{n}.
