The Lebesgue Integral over ℝⁿ of a Product of Functions of One Coordinate Each

For nonnegative measurable functions h1h_1, ..., hnh_n on ℝ, the function x ↦ h1(x1h_1(x_1)⋯h_n(xn)x_n) on ℝⁿ is measurable and its Lebesgue integral is the product of the integrals of the hjh_j; likewise with each hjh_j restricted to a Borel set BjB_j.

Statement

In the setting of Product Measures and Lebesgue Measure on ℝⁿ: Standing Notation and Background, assume the axiom of dependent choice. Let n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N} and let h1,…,hn∈M+(R,B(R))h_{1},\dots,h_{n}\in\mathcal{M}^{+}(\mathbb{R},\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R})), given as a function j↦hjj\mapsto h_{j} on [n][n]. Finite products in [0,∞][0,\infty] are the iterated operation of the product of Addition and Multiplication on [0,∞] (ii).

Products of functions of one coordinate. The function x↦∏j=1nhj(xj)x\mapsto\prod_{j=1}^{n}h_{j}(x_{j}) on Rn\mathbb{R}^{n} lies in M+(Rn,B(Rn))\mathcal{M}^{+}(\mathbb{R}^{n},\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}^{n})), and in [0,∞][0,\infty]

∫Rn∏j=1nhj(xj) dλn(x)=∏j=1n∫Rhj dλ.\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}}\prod_{j=1}^{n}h_{j}(x_{j})\,d\lambda_{n}(x)=\prod_{j=1}^{n}\int_{\mathbb{R}}h_{j}\,d\lambda .

Restriction to Borel sets. Let B1,…,Bn∈B(R)B_{1},\dots,B_{n}\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}), given as a function j↦Bjj\mapsto B_{j} on [n][n]. Then, in [0,∞][0,\infty],

∫Rn∏j=1n(hj1Bj)(xj) dλn(x)=∏j=1n∫Bjhj dλ.\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}}\prod_{j=1}^{n}(h_{j}\mathbf{1}_{B_{j}})(x_{j})\,d\lambda_{n}(x)=\prod_{j=1}^{n}\int_{B_{j}}h_{j}\,d\lambda .
