Product Measures, Lebesgue Measure on ℝⁿ and Image Measures: Notation

Notation for products of measure spaces, sections, product measures, image measures, measures with a density, Lebesgue measure on ℝⁿ, open boxes, and images of sets under translations, reflections, scalings and matrices.

Statement

Base. This setting extends Measurable Functions and the Lebesgue Integral: Notation and Euclidean Space and Real Matrices: Standing Notation: their conventions and notation are in force. Below, (Y,G,ν)(Y,\mathcal{G},\nu) is a further measure space and (Z,H)(Z,\mathcal{H}) is a measurable space; as in the extended settings, the notation is introduced for all of them at once, and a result adopting this setting uses it for whichever it names.

Products and sections. Rect(F,G)\mathrm{Rect}(\mathcal{F},\mathcal{G}) is the set of measurable rectangles, and F⊗G\mathcal{F}\otimes\mathcal{G} is the product σ\sigma-algebra on X×YX\times Y. For E⊆X×YE\subseteq X\times Y, x∈Xx\in X and y∈Yy\in Y, Ex⊆YE_{x}\subseteq Y and Ey⊆XE^{y}\subseteq X are the sections of EE; for a function ff on X×YX\times Y, fxf_{x} and fyf^{y} are its sections. When μ\mu and ν\nu are σ\sigma-finite, μ⊗ν\mu\otimes\nu is their product measure on (X×Y,F⊗G)(X\times Y,\mathcal{F}\otimes\mathcal{G}). Background: The Product σ-Algebra: Rectangles, Generators, Sections, Projections, Pairings and the Swap, Measures of Sections of a Product-Measurable Set and Existence and Uniqueness of the Product Measure.

Image measures and densities. For an F/H\mathcal{F}/\mathcal{H}-measurable function T:X→ZT:X\to Z, μ∘T−1\mu\circ T^{-1} is the image measure of μ\mu under TT. For h∈M+(X,F)h\in\mathcal{M}^{+}(X,\mathcal{F}), hμh\mu is the measure with density hh with respect to μ\mu. Lebesgue measure on Rn\mathbb{R}^{n} and images of sets. λn:B(Rn)→[0,∞]\lambda_{n}:\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}^{n})\to[0,\infty] is Lebesgue measure on Rn\mathbb{R}^{n}. For a,b∈Rna,b\in\mathbb{R}^{n}, R(a,b)R(a,b) is the open box with corners aa and bb, and Rn\mathcal{R}_{n} is the set of open boxes in Rn\mathbb{R}^{n}. τ:R→R1\tau:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}^{1} is the function sending tt to the 11-tuple with component tt, as in Borel Sets of ℝ^{m+n} and the Product σ-Algebra of ℝ^m and ℝ^n (iii). For sets D,ED,E, a function T:D→ET:D\to E and B⊆DB\subseteq D, T[B]T[B] is the image of BB under TT; in particular, for B⊆RnB\subseteq\mathbb{R}^{n}, a∈Rna\in\mathbb{R}^{n}, c∈Rc\in\mathbb{R} and A∈Mp×n(R)A\in\mathcal{M}_{p\times n}(\mathbb{R}), the sets B+aB+a, −B-B, cBcB and A[B]A[B] are the images of BB under the functions x↦x+ax\mapsto x+a, x↦−xx\mapsto-x, x↦cxx\mapsto cx and x↦Axx\mapsto Ax. Background: Existence and Uniqueness of Lebesgue Measure on ℝⁿ, Borel Sets of ℝ^{m+n} and the Product σ-Algebra of ℝ^m and ℝ^n and Concatenation Identifies a Product of Euclidean Spaces with a Euclidean Space.
