Borel Subsets of [0,∞]: Rays, the Point ∞, and Traces on ℝ

The four kinds of rays in [0,∞], the point ∞ and its complement are Borel subsets of [0,∞]; a subset of [0,∞] is Borel exactly when its real part is a Borel subset of ℝ, so every real Borel set of nonnegative numbers is a Borel subset of [0,∞].

Statement

In the setting of Measure Spaces, Borel Sets and Lebesgue Measure on the Real Line: Standing Notation, let B([0,∞])\mathcal{B}([0,\infty]) be the Borel σ\sigma-algebra of [0,∞][0,\infty], let B(R)\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}) be the Borel σ\sigma-algebra of R\mathbb{R} of Borel Sigma-Algebra of a Metric Space (ii), let <<, ≤\le, >> and ≥\ge on [0,∞][0,\infty] be as in The Extended Real Line, Its Order, and [0,∞] (iii), and let [0,∞)={x∈R:0≤x}[0,\infty)=\{x\in\mathbb{R}:0\le x\} be the ray of Intervals of the Real Line (iii).

For every a∈Ra\in\mathbb{R}, the sets {x∈[0,∞]:x>a}\{x\in[0,\infty]:x>a\}, {x∈[0,∞]:x≥a}\{x\in[0,\infty]:x\ge a\}, {x∈[0,∞]:x<a}\{x\in[0,\infty]:x<a\} and {x∈[0,∞]:x≤a}\{x\in[0,\infty]:x\le a\} belong to B([0,∞])\mathcal{B}([0,\infty]).

{∞}∈B([0,∞])\{\infty\}\in\mathcal{B}([0,\infty]) and [0,∞]∖{∞}∈B([0,∞])[0,\infty]\setminus\{\infty\}\in\mathcal{B}([0,\infty]).

For every subset BB of [0,∞][0,\infty]: B∈B([0,∞])B\in\mathcal{B}([0,\infty]) if and only if B∩R∈B(R)B\cap\mathbb{R}\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}).

Every C∈B(R)C\in\mathcal{B}(\mathbb{R}) with C⊆[0,∞)C\subseteq[0,\infty) belongs to B([0,∞])\mathcal{B}([0,\infty]).
