Convergence of Probability Measures and Random Elements: Standing Notation

Standing notation for metric spaces with their Borel sets, finite Borel and Borel probability measures, closure, interior, boundary and distance to a set, the bounded continuous functions, weak convergence of measures, and the modes of convergence of random elements.

Statement

Base. This setting extends Probability Spaces: Notation and Routine Facts, Continued: Typed Arithmetic, Maps and Predicativity: their conventions and notation are in force.

Metric spaces and Borel measures. (S,d)(S,d) and (T,ρ)(T,\rho) denote metric spaces, with Borel σ\sigma-algebras B(S)\mathcal{B}(S) and B(T)\mathcal{B}(T). A finite Borel measure on SS is a finite measure on (S,B(S))(S,\mathcal{B}(S)), and a Borel probability measure on SS is a probability measure on (S,B(S))(S,\mathcal{B}(S)); likewise for TT. For A⊆SA\subseteq S, cl⁡A\operatorname{cl}A, int⁡A\operatorname{int}A and ∂A\partial A are its closure, interior and boundary. For nonempty A⊆SA\subseteq S and x∈Sx\in S, dist⁡(x,A)\operatorname{dist}(x,A) is the distance from xx to AA. Background: Closure and Interior in a Metric Space: Containments, the Closure is Closed, the Interior is Open, The Boundary of a Subset of a Metric Space Is Closed and Borel and The Distance to a Subset of a Metric Space: Bounds, the Lipschitz Estimate, Continuity, and Vanishing Exactly on the Closure.

Bounded continuous functions. Cb(S)C_{b}(S) is the set of bounded continuous functions S→RS\to\mathbb{R}.

Weak convergence. For finite Borel measures μn\mu_{n} (n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}) and μ\mu on SS, μn⇒μ\mu_{n}\Rightarrow\mu means that (μn)(\mu_{n}) converges weakly to μ\mu.

Modes of convergence. For random elements XnX_{n} (n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}) and XX of SS on (Ω,F,P)(\Omega,\mathcal{F},P), Xn→a.s.XX_{n}\xrightarrow{\text{a.s.}}X means that (Xn)(X_{n}) converges to XX almost surely, and, when (S,d)(S,d) is separable, Xn→PXX_{n}\xrightarrow{P}X means that (Xn)(X_{n}) converges to XX in probability. For k∈Nk\in\mathbb{N}, real p≥1p\ge1 and random vectors YnY_{n} (n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}) and YY in Rk\mathbb{R}^{k} as in Convergence in Lᵖ of Random Vectors (i), Yn→LpYY_{n}\xrightarrow{L^{p}}Y means that (Yn)(Y_{n}) converges to YY in LpL^{p}. For random elements XnX_{n} of SS on probability spaces (Ωn,Fn,Pn)(\Omega_{n},\mathcal{F}_{n},P_{n}) (n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}) and XX of SS on (Ω,F,P)(\Omega,\mathcal{F},P), Xn→dXX_{n}\xrightarrow{d}X means that (Xn)(X_{n}) converges to XX in distribution.
