Radon Measures and Finite Signed Borel Measures Are Determined by Their Integrals of Compactly Supported Continuous Functions

On a locally compact metric space every continuous function with compact support is integrable with respect to every Radon measure and every finite signed Radon measure; two Radon measures with the same integrals of these functions are equal, and on a separable such space so are two finite signed Borel measures.

Statement

In the setting of Radon Measures on Locally Compact Metric Spaces: Standing Notation, let (X,d)(X,d) be a locally compact metric space.

Integrability. Every function ff in Cc(X)C_{c}(X) is integrable with respect to every Radon measure on XX, and integrable with respect to every finite signed Radon measure on XX.

Radon measures. Let μ\mu and μ′\mu' be Radon measures on XX with

∫Xf dμ=∫Xf dμ′(f∈Cc(X)).\int_{X}f\,d\mu=\int_{X}f\,d\mu'\qquad(f\in C_{c}(X)).

Then μ(B)=μ′(B)\mu(B)=\mu'(B) for every B∈B(X)B\in\mathcal{B}(X).

Finite signed Borel measures. Let XX moreover be separable, and let ν\nu and ν′\nu' be finite signed Borel measures on XX whose integrals agree on Cc(X)C_{c}(X):

∫Xf dν=∫Xf dν′(f∈Cc(X)).\int_{X}f\,d\nu=\int_{X}f\,d\nu'\qquad(f\in C_{c}(X)).

Then ν(B)=ν′(B)\nu(B)=\nu'(B) for every B∈B(X)B\in\mathcal{B}(X).
