The Wiener Chaos Decomposition: Cylindrical Hermite Polynomials Are Dense and the Gaussian Lebesgue Space Is the Orthogonal Sum of the Chaoses

The Wiener chaoses of a diagonal Gaussian measure are mutually orthogonal closed subspaces of L2(γc)L^2(\gamma_c), with the zeroth chaos the constants and the projection onto the chaos up to order mm the sum of the chaos projections; the cylindrical Hermite polynomials span a dense subspace; and every FF in L2(γc)L^2(\gamma_c) is the L2L^2-limit of the partial sums of its chaos projections, with ∥F∥22\lVert F\rVert_2^2 equal to the sum of their squared norms.

Statement

In the setting of Gaussian Analysis Relative to a Diagonal Gaussian Reference Measure with Noise Weights: Standing Notation, with the cylindrical Hermite span Hfin\mathcal{H}_{\mathrm{fin}}, the Wiener chaoses Hm\mathcal{H}_{m} and the chaoses up to order mm H≤m\mathcal{H}_{\le m} (m∈N0m\in\mathbb{N}_{0}) of The Wiener Chaoses of a Diagonal Gaussian Measure on a Hilbert Space; sums and series indexed from 00 are those of Gaussian Analysis Relative to a Diagonal Gaussian Reference Measure with Noise Weights: Standing Notation §integers.

1. (Closed orthogonal subspaces) For every m∈N0m\in\mathbb{N}_{0}, Hm\mathcal{H}_{m} and H≤m\mathcal{H}_{\le m} are closed linear subspaces of L2(γc)L^{2}(\gamma_{c}), and H0\mathcal{H}_{0} is the set of classes of constant functions. For m,m′∈N0m,m'\in\mathbb{N}_{0} with m≠m′m\ne m', every element of Hm\mathcal{H}_{m} is orthogonal to every element of Hm′\mathcal{H}_{m'}. For m∈N0m\in\mathbb{N}_{0} let JmJ_{m} be the orthogonal projection of L2(γc)L^{2}(\gamma_{c}) onto Hm\mathcal{H}_{m}. Then for every F∈L2(γc)F\in L^{2}(\gamma_{c}) and m∈N0m\in\mathbb{N}_{0}, the orthogonal projection of FF onto H≤m\mathcal{H}_{\le m} is ∑j=0mJjF\sum_{j=0}^{m}J_{j}F.

2. (Density) Hfin\mathcal{H}_{\mathrm{fin}} is dense in L2(γc)L^{2}(\gamma_{c}): for every F∈L2(γc)F\in L^{2}(\gamma_{c}) and every real ε>0\varepsilon>0 there is G∈HfinG\in\mathcal{H}_{\mathrm{fin}} with ∥F−G∥2<ε\lVert F-G\rVert_{2}<\varepsilon.

3. (Chaos decomposition) For every F∈L2(γc)F\in L^{2}(\gamma_{c}), the real sequence (∥F−∑m=0MJmF∥2)M∈N\bigl(\lVert F-\sum_{m=0}^{M}J_{m}F\rVert_{2}\bigr)_{M\in\mathbb{N}} converges to 00, the series ∑m=0∞∥JmF∥22\sum_{m=0}^{\infty}\lVert J_{m}F\rVert_{2}^{2} converges, and

∥F∥22=∑m=0∞∥JmF∥22.\lVert F\rVert_{2}^{2}=\sum_{m=0}^{\infty}\lVert J_{m}F\rVert_{2}^{2}.
