Monotonicity of Odd Powers under a Tracial State

For self-adjoint noncommutative polynomials a and b and an odd power n, a tracial state takes a real nonnegative value on the product of ana^n - bnb^n with a - b.

Statement

In the setting of Noncommutative Laws, Couplings and the Wasserstein Distance: Standing Notation, let m∈Nm\in\mathbb{N}, let λ\lambda be a tracial state on Pm\mathcal{P}_{m} and let a,b∈Pm,saa,b\in\mathcal{P}_{m,\mathrm{sa}}. For c∈Pmc\in\mathcal{P}_{m} and n∈Nn\in\mathbb{N}, cnc^{n} is the product of nn factors cc, that is, the product along the word of length nn all of whose letters are 11, for the 11-tuple (c)(c).

For every k∈Nk\in\mathbb{N}, with n=2k−1∈Nn=2k-1\in\mathbb{N}, the number λ((an−bn)(a−b))\lambda\bigl((a^{n}-b^{n})(a-b)\bigr) is real and nonnegative.
